Cost of personal injury

Legal fees caused by personal injury and whiplash claims are costing UK motorists up to £2.4 million a day in inflated car insurance costs, according to a new report.

According to the study from the Association of British Insurers (ABI), £876 million per year is paid in legal fees relating to road crashes. This, they say, equates to £1,666 being added to car insurance per minute.

For the individual all this adds up to an extra £30 per year on insurance premiums, the ABI says. Average annual car insurance premiums now stand at £418, an increase of 18 per cent since last year.
