It is hoped that heads of state and ministers from various sectors of society will show their commitment to scaling up road safety efforts. |

More than half the buyers and suppliers to the construction industry are optimistic of growth over the next 12 months, with just 15% saying the downturn will continue, states a survey by iCD Research, the market research consultancy.
And the top priorities for growth will be expansion in companies current markets, improving operational efficiency and the introduction of new products and services.
Susanne Ingham, Founder and Managing Director of TheRichWorks.co.uk welcomed the survey and its highlighting of new media as a key method for increasing sales. The continuing success and growth of TheRichWorks.co.uk demonstrates how a well-organised new media business will help businesses achieve cost efficiencies and improved profitability as a direct targeted route to the wider construction and highways sectors.
The iCD worldwide survey where nearly half the respondents were from Europe shows that there is a wide range of concerns for 2011/12 including: cost containment, market uncertainty, rising competition, retention and recruitment of skilled staff, falling demand and difficulty in responding to pressure on prices. Factors such as climate change and financial liquidity are ranked as low in terms of business concerns.
The construction industry will also experience more business mergers: 45% see an increase in this activity and a further 11% state there will be a significant increase. New media developments, such as TheRichWorks.co.uk, will involve increased sales business with email promotions, networking through social media websites, educational messages and online forums taking a growing role, along with web conferencing for sales presentations, webinars for sales lead generation, and white paper downloads for lead generation.
Construction companies are taking a broad approach to improve their performance., including: focussing sales efforts on generating new business as well as existing markets, re-organising sales efforts, trying new products, and investing in brand building and advertising.
The complete report from iCD Research will be available in May. Enquiries to: icdreports@progressivedigitalmedia.com

The Government run scheme Jobsearch Support for Newly Unemployed Professionals will unfortunately come to an end on 31st March 2011.
As part of the initiative, TheRichWorks.co.uk has been helping industry professionals to find employment for the last two years and is naturally disappointed with the news. Therefore, please be aware that we are only able to offer this referral service until the 18th March 2011.
However all is far from lost as TheRichWorks is still able to provide a fantastic range of resources to assist job seeking candidates, including a free CV submission service. A spokesman for the Department of Work & Pensions said I would like to thank you and your team for the contribution you have made in helping Jobcentre Plus to move a large number of its customers towards employment.

The landmark Ancoats Dispensary building is in need of a new use and a partner to deliver a viable project. Ancoats Dispensary dates from the 1870s and is the last remaining building on the original Ancoats Hospital site. Grade II listed, the three-storey red brick building is designed in the Neo-Gothic style with a distinct central tower.
Heritage Works is currently undertaking a study to identify possible end uses for this Grade II listed building located in New Islington. As a Building Preservation Trust, Heritage Works act as a not for profit developer to deliver capital projects. We are searching for end users, end uses and potential fundable projects to bring the former Ancoats Dispensary back to life.
The property fronts on to Old Mill Street, the main thoroughfare through the wider area of New Islington; a 30 acre site on the former Cardroom estate in Ancoats whose regeneration is being led by developer Urban Splash. Ancoats Dispensary is not only of architectural significance, being Grade II listed and a rare example of historic hospital architecture in Manchester, but also has links to Ancoats, the hub of the industrial revolution, and has connections with several generations of workers and residents in the area.
Following a programme of emergency works the Dispensary is currently a stabilised, but roofless, shell. Heritage Works Buildings Preservation Trust is working to explore a range of potential end uses and projects that can attract external funding to bring the building back to life.
The Trust is keen to hear from organizations with fundable projects and can explore the potential avenues of funding that may be available with interested parties.
The building has a gross internal area of 1218m2, previously over 3 floors now with internal floors removed, providing a degree of flexibility and offering exciting architectural possibilities for a wide range of new uses.
Information can be found at www.heritageworks.co.uk/ancoats The study deadline is early March 2011, so please email Heritage Works now at: ancoatsdispensary@heritageworks.co.uk
