A-one+ Acknowledged by Highways England Supplier Recognition Scheme

A-one+ was announced joint winner of the prestigious Health and Safety award and Highly Commended for two separate Customer Experience entries at the Highways England’s Supplier Recognition Ceremony last Thursday 14 January.

The winning accolade recognises the company’s focus and commitment to making safety, health and wellbeing a number one priority, improving the welfare of the workforce and sharing learning and new initiatives with others in the community both locally and nationally. The award acknowledges the company’s efforts driving this to a new level within the highways maintenance sector and delivering a positive impact on employees, road users and neighbouring communities of the road network covered by A-one+.

The ceremony was held at the Institute of Engineering and Technology (IET) in Birmingham where the aim of the Highways England Supplier Recognition Scheme is to highlight and recognise the professionalism, excellence and innovation of the companies working on behalf of Highways England.

A-one+ is a shared joint venture between CH2M, Colas and Costain; a key provider of integrated highways services carrying out routine, planned and reactive maintenance, highways incident response and a range of projects to maintain and improve the Strategic Road Networkon behalf of Highways England. We currently operate in Area 12, Yorkshire and Humber, Area 7, East Midlands and Area 14 the North East.

The company is proud of its undertaking over the last few years. Its aim to be hands on in contributing to and steering the safety of our major routes and trunk roads by identifying and promoting safer working practices, caring for workforce welfare and working with Highways England to improve customer experience through our 70 point customer plan and pro-active stakeholder management.

A number of initiatives highlighted in the winning submission include; achieving Gold Better for Health at Work award, linking recognition systems to company values, providing access to inclusive company initiatives, flexible and lone working support systems, mental health buddies and campaigns to raise awareness for depression and stress. As a result of this continued focus A-one+ sees a lower than average absence rate at 2.8% compared to the national UK average of 3%. A reduction in costs associated with sickness such as overtime and temporary recruitment and an upturn in engagement and satisfaction.
