APSE (Association for Public Service Excellence) is a dynamic and fast-growing local authority membership association promoting excellence in the delivery of local services. APSE provides a range of services to member councils across the UK, including advice, research, consultancy, benchmarking and training.

 Principal Advisor

Starting salary £34,894 per annum

The post is graded PO4 – PO6 (SCP41 to 49) £34,894 to £42,032

APSE is seeking to appoint a suitably qualified and experienced individual to contribute to the growth and enhancement of services offered to the Association’s members. The successful individual will join an existing team of Principal Advisors who provide advice, research and information to APSE’s committees and member authorities, as well as having responsibility for coordinating and developing regional membership activity and events.

The role would be suited to an individual with Local Government operational and policy knowledge within an environmental service discipline and will have experience in one or more of the following areas, refuse and waste, cleansing, fleet / transport, parks and public realm, and a good working knowledge of neighbourhood based / frontline services. Ideally you will be currently working within a local authority or other body engaged in service delivery in either an operational or policy basis in one of the following areas: housing; highways; environment; facilities management or leisure.

The successful candidate will be enthusiastic, self-motivated and a charismatic champion for APSE.  He / she will be able to demonstrate a commitment to front line public services as well as the ability to network with colleagues and local government peers. The ability to present information clearly, orally and in writing, is also essential. 

The post is based in Manchester; the salary scale reflects the requirement for some out of hours working and a significant amount of travelling throughout the United Kingdom.
